The NJ Dept. of Community Affairs Invests in Waterfront South

The Heart of Camden is honored to announce that the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs has awarded a $50,000 Neighborhood Planning Grant to the Heart of Camden to create a community-led vision for the future of Waterfront South! A neighborhood plan is a guide for making future decisions about how the City should allocate resources within the neighborhood, what kinds of development activity is appropriate, and what issues Waterfront South residents and stakeholders are concerned about. It’s a statement of what the neighborhood wants to achieve and become, as well as a roadmap to reach those destinations.

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program (NRTC) is providing the funding for the Heart of Camden to lead the community engagement process that will result in a ten (10) year comprehensive plan.

The Heart of Camden was founded by Monsignor Michael J. Doyle in 1984 to help improve the lives of children and families through affordable homeownership, supportive services, and economic development. Since then, the organization has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants and donations and through their support has been able to address some of the community’s most pressing needs including housing, pandemic relief, youth services, the development of arts & cultural facilities, and a greener environment. This plan is the next step in working together with residents to create a neighborhood of choice and opportunity!
